Ask Coach Quese (June 5)

I’d like to start today’s Ask Coach Quese with a Happy 100th Birthday wish to our Ruth Ingram “Fan of the Year” Award winner, Paul Warnick! Thanks for the questions this week and keep sending more questions to askcoachquese@gmail.com.

Coach,
Congrats on a great season. I love that you are so involved in the community and hold your annual Coquese's Drive to benefit the Women's Resource Center. Are you an avid golfer? With so many great charities in the area, what drew you to the Women's Resource Center?
Thanks for answering,
Matt

Thanks Matt! I have to admit – I am not a golfer! I enjoy the game, but I don’t play regularly enough to be any good, so my game is pretty pitiful! Lol. But we always have a wonderful during Coquese’s Drive. What drew me too the Women’s Resource Center was Anne Ard and the other leaders of the Center. They are truly fantastic people and it’s inspiring to work with great people. Also, domestic violence and sexual assault are serious crimes that impact families for generations. I appreciate all the work the Women’s Resource Center does to help families in crisis but in addition the Center does some outstanding educational programming that will help prevent abuse from occurring in the first place. And the Center can always, always use more help! I hope to see you on the course August 31! ☺

Hi Coach,
When will you announce this upcoming year’s roster? Anyone not returning from the underclassmen?
Karl Libhart

Hi Carl! The 2012-13 Lady Lions will be a fun, exciting team to watch. We return everyone with the exception of our seniors, Renee Womack and Zha Zha Gray. We will add two players to the team: freshman Candice Agee, a 6’7 center from California, and Dara Taylor, a transfer junior point guard, who will be eligible to suit up for us next year.

What is the summer like for the players? Are they training at home or do they workout on campus? How do you help them to get better during the off-season?
Thanks!
Sheila

Great question Sheila! The NCAA does not allow the coaches to do any work with our players in the gym over the summer. We provide them with summer workout and plans and they get in the gym and work out on their own. They are home for the first half of the summer and then they will return to campus for summer school the last week of June. So their improvement is really up to each individual player and how dedicated, determined and focused they are to get in the gym and get better.

Thanks again to Matt, Karl and Sheila for their great questions! I will be back to answer your questions against next Tuesday, so don’t forget to send your questions to askcoachquese@gmail.com!
