Lady Lions Get Their Flu Shots

While the start of November begins Lady Lion games (YAY!), it also signals the start of flu season (BOO!).  This week in the athletic training room after practice the Lady Lions and staff got their annual flu shots.  The evidence is pretty clear- getting vaccinated can protect you from getting sick with the flu.  And keeping the team healthy keeps them on the court of course!

While nobody likes getting a shot, it helps when you have a nurse like Ruth Lyons giving them!  Plus the Toy Story Band-Aids and lollipops helped ease the sting a bit too.  If you handed out awards for team nurses, Ruth would certainly be a First Team All Big Ten Nurse!  Ruth Lyons has been a nurse for PSU Sports Medicine for 7 years.  Ruth provides care for many Penn State athletes and the Lady Lions always know they will be in good hands (and get a big hug) when they have to see Ruth.  When our Lady Lions are sick or down with an injury, Ruth ensures their spirits stay up while getting healthy.

In case you were wondering which Lady Lions handled the pressure of getting a shot the best- the Post players proved their toughness and dominated the day!  Mia Nickson is a beast on the court and was just as tough getting her shot.  On the other hand- Maggie Lucas getting a flu shot will NOT be on her next trick shot video.  “Machine Gun” Maggie needed a lot of coaxing and hand holding from Coquese to get it done.
